Porblems of an Ex-Artist

Yesturday Kim stressed the fact that I need to act like an artist. because I only got my grade 10 I don't know what that mean. If anyone knows please tell me.

If I find out that its one of those "Its best if you figure it out for yourself" type of things I'm going to be very upset.

  1. I'm going to try to say this without upsetting anyone... and I'm being 100% serious here...

I have never been as creative and artistic and learned as much, as when I was allowed to express my art without fear...

Through some of our classes, we worry that someone is going to tell us its not good enough, or that we arn't doing enough, or we're forgetting something... and because of that, we are more worried about a grade then we are about the product.

My best paintings, pictures, and even photoshop work has always been done OUTSIDE of class because I'm not as worried about being wrong.

WITH ALL THAT IN MIND... when I go home and work on a painting... the reason that it is better, is because for the 4 years of high school... I had technique, principal and "rules" drilled into me. I hated the teachers, but I remembered.

At IADT the same can be said... we might not like it when it happens, and we feel foolish and embarassed and humiliated. But when you sit down to do work on your own... you'll remember that characters looking offscreen is a no no... or that you cant have 3 different types of alignment on one page.

I might be taking Lionell's comment here a little too seriously, but I know from the little bit of coaching I've done... you push and push the ones you care for, and you're always harder on those that can take it.
